Congratulations to the Arlington Council of PTAs' December "Zero Hero", Gerald Sims from Duff Elementary School! Mr. Sims is known throughout AISD as "The Crossing Guard with all the hats", but the Duff community knows him for so much more. In addition to making this West Arlington neighborhood a safe place to walk to school, he routinely ensures that streets, sidewalks, and entrances are welcoming to all who visit. He and his wife Vicki attend PTA events, bring treats to the staff, and cheer on students at Mustang sporting events year-round. The campus has declared this December 7th as "Mr. Sims Hat Day" and encourages students, teachers, and staff to wear their favorite hat in his honor. Thank you for all that you do, Mr. Sims!
November’s Arlington Council of PTAs “Zero Hero” of the month is Miz Barbara (her own spelling), a 9-year crossing guard from Mary Moore Elementary! Here are a few of the things the parents that see her everyday had to say about her: “She always knows the kids by name, even years later.” “She is always smiling, friendly, very serious about the safety. Even with the parents, if you aren't following the rules she will let you know.” Thank you for recognizing her contributions to AISD, Mary Moore PTA. Congratulations, Miz Barbara!
Congratulations to the Arlington Council of PTAs' October “Zero Heroes”, Dunn Elementary principal, MaryHelen Burnett, and assistant principal, Crystal Green! Before school started in August, they rallied Dunn families to help them create a music video about the morning drop-off routine AND a video about drop-off safety. Thank you for all you to advocate for improved school pedestrian safety in AISD!
